The Brazilian Percussion Workshop is aimed at people who want to learn about and experience the rhythmic richness of Brazilian music in a practical, collaborative, and fun way.
The main focus of the classes will be the pandeiro, one of the most versatile instruments in Brazilian music. Throughout the semester, we will also explore other percussion instruments, such as the surdo, tamborim, timbal, hand drums, and others, broadening the group's musical experience.
Each semester, we choose certain rhythms to delve deeper into our study. The repertoire may include samba, baião, coco, ciranda, maracatu, among others, and the group's own interests also help define the paths we will follow during the classes.
No prior musical experience is necessary. The workshop is open to people aged 15 and over, and all levels are welcome. Both beginners and more experienced musicians will find challenges and learning opportunities.
You don't need to own an instrument either. All instruments used in class are provided, and each participant can borrow a tambourine to take home during the semester to practice between sessions.
